Identification

Egg - elongate, inserted into plant tissue

Nymph - pink to pale grey, dark markings, long hairs on thorax and abdomen, fast moving (Fig. 1).

Adult - shiny black, 3 – 6 mm long (Fig. 2).

Life History

Overwinter as adults in or near orchard. Females lay eggs in April or May and nymphs are present in late spring and mid-summer. There are two generations per year.

Monitoring

Limb taps will detect adults and nymphs.
